Be Anchored

Be anchored in who you are as a woman of God! Be anchored in the one who created you, so that you can withstand any storm that comes your way! Be anchored so you can stand tall and be proud of who you are! Be anchored so you can walk confidently in your purpose! Be ANCHORED!

To be anchored according to the dictionary definition is to be held in place, or securely firm.  As a woman, mom, wife, sister, daughter, teacher and volunteer; I know life gets extremely busy.  Trying to juggle everything, it can feel as if I am drowning or being pulled in every direction.  If I am not anchored, I will break very quickly and not survive. This does not mean we cannot be a mess at times or that we have to have everything together.  It just means that I can walk through difficult times with hope and grace.

Being anchored for me is not solely one aspect but rather many aspects that come together, most importantly the main aspect of being anchored is my relationship with Jesus.  Having a relationship with Jesus and accepting Him into my life was the first step in planting my roots deep into the ground.  To ensure that my roots are nourished and grow and are firmly fixed into the ground, I need to put effort into my relationship with Jesus. I need to grow with Him, by spending time in the Word, worshipping Him and giving praise and thanks.  Being planted in a church body nourishes my root system and keeps me accountable to serving Him and serving others.

I can nourish my roots and stem by letting it be watered, by allowing positivity into my life and keeping negativity away.  I have the choice when it comes to who and what I choose to entertain.  Who do I keep company with, to share thoughts and ideas with and who moulds and impacts my life.  What do I listen to and watch whether the office gossip, the television series and movies, the radio or music apps.  What and who we surround ourselves with is what influences us either in a positive or negative way.  Guard your heart and be bold enough and love yourself enough to say NO to entertaining that friend, or NO to watching that movie when everyone is eager too.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4 verse 23. (NIV)

By having like-minded people journey with me that uplift and encourage me, through reading books, attending seminars, attending church regularly, being involved in church or bible groups help me to remain anchored.

Why is being anchored so important? We can be certain that in this life we will face difficult and trying times.  Because we follow Jesus, it does not exempt us from the bad or from the trials and struggles.  In fact in James 1 verse 2 -4 it says, 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

We are guaranteed to encounter storms in our lives, but if we make sure that we are anchored we will be able to have hope, peace and joy despite the circumstance or challenge that we may face.  We can allow Jesus to take control, cast our worries, fears and anxieties on Him and He will guide us and He will be with us through every storm. He promises us in Joshua 1 verse 5, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NIV)

I encourage you to reflect today on where you are! Are your roots solid and firmly anchored, or do you need to fix your root system.  It is never too late to fix those roots and become anchored in Jesus. It may just mean a little more effort and hard decisions that you have to make.  Be anchored and stand stall!
