As the New Year rolled in, I found myself reflecting on the past year, all of it’s challenges, heartache and opportunities that came with it. I wondered what the New Year would bring and what I could expect from it. It could come with a whole new and exciting opportunity or it could not. Suddenly the opportunities and bold steps I took in 2021; I allowed fear to creep in. What if I am not as bold as I think? What if I fail this year? I almost felt that I wanted to hide away from the New Year because I became so fearful of what it could hold and all the things that I could or could not accomplish this year.
At the beginning of January during a church service, I heard God question me, LOUD AND CLEAR….. Jess, why are you limiting me…. I felt dumbstruck. Why am I limiting a God who is all powerful and all mighty? God is limitless and He does not look at my degree, my capabilities, my talents when He chooses me to do His work. He is not worried about what I look like or how much money I have or don’t have. He chooses the available and it is He who equips us. It is in my weakness that He is strong.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
God is limitless in who He is and His resources. If God is limitless, then we as His children can trust in knowing that whatever God calls us to do, He will equip us, He will give us the tools, the knowledge, the resources and the grace to do so. Then why do we limit God and put him in a box? When we get really big and exciting dreams and push them aside because in the natural they seem impossible or when the fear of man and what others may say about us stepping out overrides our courage or doing something that makes sense only to a few, or the fear of failure, or age that seems to be against us to start something new.. although you can never be too old to try anything. It could be that you are a mom with small children and your time is stretched already, or your doubt in yourself and God is stronger at times than your faith. These could be one of many reasons we choose to back down and limit God when He is calling us to greater things.
We serve a God who makes all things possible. Whatever reason is causing you to limit God working in and through you, I want you to stop and pause for a moment. Take a deep breathe and think about who God is for a minute: GOD is ALL POWERFUL, He created ME and YOU for a purpose and He will equip us for whatever He calls us to do. He makes ALL things POSSIBLE and He is LIMITLESS, without end, infinite!! If we knew God was limitless and believed it with all our heart, would it change the next decision you make? How would it change what you are going to do next and in turn how would it change your world?
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
Psalm 147:5
his understanding has no limit.”
Going into this New Year for some of us doesn’t feel any different to last year and for this reason it could keep us from hoping for change this year. Whether you came into 2022 with a positive and excited attitude or if you were feel the weight of last year carrying through to 2022, I want to encourage you and challenge you to choose to seek God and His heart for you this year, choose daily to walk in faith and have hope that this year you will grow, you will prosper, you will stand tall no matter what you face and ultimately you will be bold and courageous to walk in God’s call on your life. Practically, this can only happen if we are invested in our relationship with God, and by taking the actions you need too; even if they scare you, even if you make mistakes; we learn, grow and keep going.
Dear Lord Jesus
I pray that the revelation of who God is will override my fears and that when I don’t feel equipped, knowledgeable, or capable of doing something great I will remember that I don’t need to be. It’s not about me, its all about You and what You can do through me. May You shine greater and may you bless me with a greater measure of boldness to dream big dreams and go for it, knowing that I serve the God of the impossible!
In Jesus name, Amen
